The ultimate indulgent but healthy breakfast smoothie.

Oh. My. Days.

This.

I have no words.

Ok actually I do have some.

This smoothie is so so epic I can't quite get over it. There is so much going on and it seems like such an indulgent delicious treat, but it's so healthy!

Just check out all these flavours occurring:

  • Strawberries
  • Peanut butter
  • Banana
  • Cinnamon
  • Almonds
  • Dates (= fudge)
  • Chocolate
  • Granola

And people, more is more.

What makes this smoothie even more awesome is the secret chocolate mix inside that you don't even see!

You make the peanut butter smoothie mix first and pour that into your glass/jar. (After putting some strawbs in the bottom just to make it look pretty.)

Then you make a little more, thicker, chocolate smoothie mix and pour it into the PB mix. Because it's denser it stays in the middle and gets hidden so nobody knows it's there. Then you take a sip and it's like SURPRISE! Lil bit of cheeky chocolate lurking in there.

The slurping commences
With every sip there's excitement. Yes, excitement. Perhaps you'll get a little crunch of granola, maybe some chocolate, maybe a bit of strawb.

It's sensationally thick, rich and oh-so-filling... Hard to believe it's healthy! But it is:

  • Ground almonds and peanut butter are great sources of protein and healthy fats
  • Dates + banana + strawberries = like, a kajillion of your five a day
  • Cinnamon speeds up your metabolism
  • Oats are energising
  • Milk gives you calcium
  • Choc Shot is a 100% natural, low-cal, healthy chocolate sauce.

Do you need any more justification? I think not.

Ultimate smoothie + PJs = dream morning
It's so thick and gloopy that you can't not savour every slurp. And when you get to the bottom, that's when you've just got to dive in with a spoon.

In fact, that may even be the best bit.

The layering up takes a little longer than your standard smoothie, but I think it's totally worth it.

I concocted this creation as it's a bank holiday today and was a bit too excited about how it might turn out. World, it was better than my wildest dreams, hence why I'm sharing it with you - I make smoothies quite a lot but don't tend to blog them. But this was too good not to share.

Peel, chop and freeze your banana when it looks like this.
Thanks to the frozen banana you don't need any ice cream to make it creamy and thick. And the banana's sweetness combined with that of the dates means absolutely no added sugar necessary.

It's all a bit dreamy really.

This serves one. You could easily make it gluten-free or vegan by making substitutions for the milk and granola too! (It looks like there are loads of ingredients but they're basically the same in each section.)

Ingredients

Peanut butter layer:
About 100ml milk
Half a frozen banana (peeled, chopped and frozen when really ripe)
1 heaped tsp ground almonds
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 medjool date, pitted
1 heaped tbsp peanut butter
1 ice cube

Chocolate surprise section:
About 50ml milk
Half a frozen banana (peeled, chopped and frozen when really ripe)
1 heaped tsp ground almonds
1 medjool date, pitted
1 tbsp Choc Shot
1 ice cube

Topping and base:
About 8 small-ish strawberries.
A handful of granola.

Starting a new jar of PB = winning

Method

1. Chop half the strawberries into halves/thirds and stand them up round the bottom of your glass.

2. Starting with the liquids, add all the ingredients for the PB smoothie to the blender and blend until smooth (you may need to stop and scrape down the sides).

Carefully pour into your smoothie glass and if you can, stand it in the freezer to thicken while you make the next layer.

3. Blend all the ingredients for the chocolate smoothie.

And carefully pour the chocolate mix into the PB smoothie.

4. Generously sprinkle the granola on top of your smoothie, then add a few chopped strawberries on top of that. Squeeze in a straw and get ready to taste heaven.

What are your favourite smoothie combos?
